Q: A train going at the rate of 72 km/hr over takes another train 192 meters long, going in the same direction on a parallel line at 54 km per hour and completely passes it in 1 ½ minutes. Find the time in which the trains would have completely passed each other, if they had been going in opposite directions, and also the length of the faster train
A. 218 m, 13 6/7 secs B. ] 258 m, 12 6/7 secs
C. 268 m, 12 6/7 secs D. 250 m, 14 6/7 secs

Answer and Explanation

Answer:] 258 m, 12 6/7 secs

Explanation:
the length of the faster train b l m.
=> The two trains move at a relative speed of (72 – 54) = 18 kmph
=>(192 + l) / [(1000)(18)] = 1.5/60 = l = 258 m
=>If the trains move in opposite directions they approach each other at a relative speed of (72 + 54) = 126 kmph
=>The time taken to pass completely (192 + 258) / [(1000)(126)]3600
= 12 6/7 sec
